Mahi Strong and Blackfin Tuna Making Annual Spring Entrance

Capt. Mario Cote
April 19, 2014
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in Fort Lauderdale the last few days has been good. This week, our morning trip produced some nice fish. Pierre fished with us several times this year and always likes to catch mahi. So, when he came again this week, mahi was our primary target. We started shallow and could not find a bite in between 100' and 200', so we I moved deeper to 350' by the Steeple. We ended up with 6 mahi up to 20 lbs. for Pierre and is friends - that's some good eating fish for dinner.

On another trip, we also caught medium size kingfish and a lots of bonito. The last few morning trips, we fished with John and his son John Jr. from New York. We caught some small mahi, kingfish, a big barracuda, lots of bonitos and also a few nice blackfin tuna up to 22 lbs. The tuna ate lives baits while kite fishing south of the inlet, in 120' to 140' of water.

We're starting to see some bigger blackfin showing up in our water and they will only get bigger and they also going to be a lots more in the next few month.

Good luck and tight lines,

Capt. Mario Cote
