Mahi-Mahi Biting on our Drift Fishing Trips in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
The ocean is alive this week. Lots of fish are biting and some fish that we normally don't catch are biting really good. Case in point, mahi-mahi. The mahi-mahi are biting right in on the reefs this week. We're catching the bigger ones on our sportfishing charters, either by trolling or live baiting. But the unusual thing is that we're catching mahi-mahi on the drift boat. Our drift boat (only $40 per person) is catching a lot of fish they normally don't. Just yesterday, we had a hundred or more mahi-mahi swimming all around the boat. We caught a ton on them. Most of them were shorts, too short to keep, but we did get to keep some. We don't normally catch mahi-mahi on our drift fishing trips, where we focus on targeting the small bottom fish. But when they are swimming all around the boat, it's time to fish for mahi!
April is one of our best months for mahi-mahi. This is the month, when there is a strong East wind, the dolphin come right in on the reef to feed. We catch some really big ones on our sportfishing charter boats. Today we caught two 30 pound mahi-mahi right in on the reef, less than 100 ft of water. Last April was similar, any time we had a good East wind (the roughest of all wind directions), we had a great mahi-mahi bite. We're into our best season of the year for mahi-mahi fishing. If you'd like to get out on a charter and catch some, give us a call. You can catch them on both the drift boat trips or the sportfishing charter trips this month. Good luck to everyone fishing this week. I'll sea ya on the water.
