Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
May 5, 2003
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Swordfishing conditions

We headed out to the Sword grounds last night with a SE breeze at 5-10 knots. Seas were 2-3 feet and the current was ripping at 5 knots all night and overpowering the wind as we got sucked out into the deep instead of inside like a SE wind should put you. The moonset came about 10:00pm and almost an hour later we had a nice run come from a deep line with a monster squid pinned to it. The fish made a long run and we saw him surfacing a couple of 100 yards away. After cranking like a madman we finally got tight, the fish pulled a little drag then the hooks pulled. Some fine excitement for a moment there but the rest of the night was quiet. Conditions were not the most pleasurable but that's fishing. We'll get em on a better night, I wish there was a current speed predictor, it would make things much easier. I'm heading out again the next two nights and I will keep you all posted. Till next Tide, Captain Cary Hanna
