Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
May 30, 2003
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Ft. Lauderdales turned on!

Rod bending action is what you can expect if you can get out in the early morning. This week the Bonita have been going off on every Pilchard that goes out. Some Blackfin Tuna have been mixed in if you can get one before the Bonitas hit the bait. Usually the larger goggle eye on the kite rig will get them. Sailfish are making an appearance once again and I hope it will last for awhile. The last couple of days the west winds are changing things a bit along with all the rain run-off, we had to travel at least 3 miles north or south to get into some clean water. Amberjack on still on the Tennaco's and we also found dinosaur size Barracuda in the shallows. Kingfishing has slowed down this week but I'm still keeping wire on all rods. Thursday night we headed out to the Sword grounds, we caught all kinds of bait and headed out about 7 pm. The winds were southwest about 15-20 knots. As we reached 6 miles offshore the swells kicked up 4-6 feet and were right behind each other. This made it very uncomfortable and I knew it was only going to get worse with another 10 miles to go, so I made the call to head back in with our heads down. With the knew moon phase here we were all anxious to get out there. Hopefully this west wind will quit and we can slide out again, can't wait! Getting out on the water is the perfect getaway to free yourself from all anxieties, book a charter and find out what it's like, you won't be disapointed! Till next tide, Captain Cary Hanna
