Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Strong bite going on!
Thursday was set up with Dale and his wife and son Noah. There were no Goggle eye baits to be found so we opted to get 3 dozen pilchards and make our way out to fish.
A little west wind started the morning pushing us out so we set up a bit shallow and the bite was on. From the start to the 6 hour finish we kept busy fighting mostly Kingfish. We didn't bring one Bonita to the boat today. Our first fish though was a Houndfish almost 4 feet long, but after that it was non stop. They liked the bait better when it was freelined out to them. I suppose the way the bait swims freely on it's way out got them feeding. All we had to do was cast the bait, let him swim out and wait for the fast pick-up, then hit him. With no exaggeration we had about 20 or more Kingfish to the boat. We kept the biggest one weighing 30 pounds.
Our Pilchard baits were awsome. Some were big as a horse. One of the bigger baits caught us a Sailfish that went bolistic as soon as he felt the hook. He jumped left, then right, then left again. He had no idea which way to get away from us as he almost jumped in the boat. After about a solid 20 minute fight we got him boatside and the next battle began as I grabbed the leader and attempted to remove the hook. To much work so I cut the line and we got a few pictures and sent her back in the drink.
It's not like this everyday but I would count on it for the next few days at least.
