Fishing Report for Ft. Lauderdale & Port Everglades

Capt. Cary Hanna
September 16, 2007
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's Coming Around!

This week and next should be great for the Swordfish bite. This is the month from every year that trophy size fish in the 500 pound range are caught. Also the Pumpkin fish with the Salmon colored meat start showing up too. We try to get out as much as possible this month and next before the wind starts picking up.

Closer to shore each morning the seas have been a dream. The calm blue waters have been producing lots of Kingfish, Tunas and large Barracudas are also going crazy on the baits. We have been going out with at least 3 dozen Pilchard baits and still running out of bait. It's been alot of work going through so much wire on the Kings, retying over and over with new hooks, my fingertips are about raw.

The Dolphin and Sailfish continue to be a bonus catch as they are here one week and gone the next. It's that time of year when we hear the recreational guys going 15-20 miles offshore in search of the Frigate birds and large patches of Flotsam. Keep trying those patches, you never know which one is holding the fish.

See you on the rip,

Captain Cary Hanna
