Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been a while since my last update. You know how the holidays can get in the way. I hope everyone had a fun and safe time. The fishing scene has had its share of interference in the way of weather. Lots of winds and rain during the last few days and it looks like more to come in the next few. I did manage to sneak out a few trips in the harbor though. We had slim pickings on bait and used live shrimp with light tackle to pick off a few small bottom fish in the port. The cudas bit well before the blow but seemed to be quiet yesterday. The tarpon are hanging in the local feeding stations but not many in the open water to take a bait.

Still no pilchard schools in the harbor that attract the spanish mackerel on the inside. It was like this last year, could be another. The good news is that when the seas are calm enough to fish the inlet, on a week day, it is full of suprises. Just bring along some live shrimp and hold on.

Offshore the sailfish bit well and an ocassional dolphin and kingfish rounded out the catch.

Sea Ya,

Captain Ron Mallet
