Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
We are getting a little closer to my favorite time of year, SPRING. After what I consider a slow winter of fishing we are starting to see a change for the better. The first sign is some baitfish are starting to show in the local waters. If you fish this area much you know how tough it was this winter to get a hold of bait. Well if the bait isn't here the gamefish usually won't stick around long. The last few weeks we are starting to see the baits show again. The canals have a few good scholls of mullet and around them the 10 to 20 pound bruiser Jacks are taking an early breakfast. It isn't hard getting the bite if you can net up a few of the mullet but landing these big boys in the narrow canals is a challenge. A few more Tarpon are in the nieghborhood too. I guess after seeing the size of the shrimp coming int the tackle shop I know what they are munching on. You'll get a lot more bites in this area fishing for the Tarpon after dark.
Most of my action has been outside the inlet when the seas allow. Kingfish, Dolphin, Sailfish, Shark, Snapper, you name it. This is the time of year to be ready for it all.
Sea Ya,
Captain Ron Mallet
