Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
I can feel fall wanting to show. We are getting an occasional large school of mullet in the canals and a steady showing of the smaller schools. If you can find a nervous pack of bait at first light try to pitch a hooked member of the species back into the group. There are Tarpon, Jacks and a fair number of large Snook hanging around them. This routine works best during the quieter weekdays and will shut down after the boat traffic picks up or if you get into a good battle and disturb the group. You need to go fairly heavy with the tackle too since most of the action is close to marinas, docks, moored boats and nasty snaggy things. We lost a few good fish recently trying to be sporty.
Offshore the action seemed to improve also. Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish and Bonita action picked up a bit now that we got past the full moon. And the bite was close too.
Remember, we are about to enter one our peak seasons for great action here. October and November can push lots of hungry fish through our waters trying to relocate for the winter. They are burning energy and need to refuel often. This adds up to lots of bent rods.
