Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Report 10/29-11/4

Tropical Storm Noel skirted offshore of us this week and the wind blew. Even before the storm got here we had winds in the 20-30knot range and it continued through thursday. On Friday the wind shifted to the north and the seas laid down close to shore and made for some beautiful condition close to shore with a nice swell on the reef. It felt like sailfish weather, slightly cool in the morning and the wind was blowing from the right direction.

Satuday morning I bait fished down off Fort Lauderdale and fished my way back from Port Everglades, finally connecting with some dolphin off the Steeple. Green water was in shallow, with ballyhoos being showered by kingfish and dolphin. Starting in 225-250 the water started to take on a bluer color and in 400ft. the water became a nice gulfstream blue. Fish were spread out from the green water to the Blue. Lots of dolphin were being caught as I'm sure these past few days of wind have blown them close to shore. Sailfish have started to show with several boats catching them including several boats with two each. We had fun with they dolphin and also had a screaming run off the kite that I could only guess what kind of fish it was. I got a look but still am confused as what it was.

Saturday afternoon one of my regulars was out and are target was sailfish, I got several reports of boats catching them in the Green water so thats were we fished. Almost immediately we had a double of sailfish and dolphin. Two lines actually got crosed after we hooked the sail off the kite and as the sail ran past the boat the dolphin swam up and ate the other bait off the other line. Normally this would result in lost fish but I guess luck was on our side. We caught both fish after a spirited fight from the sailfish. With our goal met we set out to catch somemore fish to eat and possibly another sail. We caught another dolphin in the 10lb range followed up by a new specie for me off the kite. It looked like a cobia eating the left short kite bait and fought like one, but could tell it was a shark when it got close. Well up pops a Tiger Shark, only 3ft. long but a for sure Tiger shark. We probably encounter one a year, but usually they just swim around take a look and leave but this one couldn't resist a blue runner on the kite. Well we finished the day with a double on dolphin followed with a double on sails with the two remaining baits in the water. The fish are there and you just have to be ready when they show.

We got our next cold front this morning so the sail will only pour through even more in the coming weeks so give us a call if you want to get in on the action.
