Fort Lauderdale, FL - Offshore

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Raindrops keep falling!

The water has been dirty for the past 3 weeks due to all the rain. Not much current to move it away.

We went on a Marathon trip last Saturday. Two guys wanted to catch a Marlin. We headed offshore with the lures out. All day we saw nothing. No Dolphin, no weeds, no boards, no fish! We went 30 miles off!

About 4pm the short teaser went off! We were looking for a bill behind the lure and all we saw was a lot of blue color. 3 bites later the Mako Sharkv showed his head & shoulders. 400 lbs of Mako! We couldn't get the fish to eat the fresh mackeral we tossed out or the live blue runner we tossed back there. Oh well, it wasn't a Marlin is all we could say.

We were going to fish all night for Swordfish and all the next day for Marlin again.

We put the Swordfish baits out at 8 pm. Not a bite until 5 AM. The shallow bait at 100 feet went off and after a short fight, we had a 60 lb Swordfish in the boat. Sunday AM it started to Rain and it didn't stop all day. We called it quits at 10 AM. There has to be better days. One Swordfish and a shot at a Mako, it still was a good day fishing.

This week has been tough. We caught a nice Cobia of 40 lbs Froday and some Amberkjacks and cudas. We did catch a few nice Bull Sharks and Blacktip Sharks, this weekend.

The Dolphin have been few and far between. Good reports of them down in the Keys, but not to many up here.

We did catch one Sailfish this week. The wahoo never got going on the full moon like we expected.

We expect it to get better as the current takes this dirty water North. The Bonitas and Kings are starting to move in. It's gotta get better.

Catch-em-up,

Capt. Kunta
