Fort Lauderdale, FL - Offshore

Capt. David Ide

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Amberjacks, Sails, & Sharks!

The Amberjacks have showed up on the wrecks. This also means that the Sharks are following them here!

When the current is moving you can catch an Amberjack over most of the wrecks offshore in 200’ to 350’ of water. If the current is not moving, they will mark on your machine, but usually they won’t bite.

This week there were some really nice Sharks caught. One nice Thresher and a Mako Shark were brought in. Other Sharks caught were, Hammerheads, Black Tips and Spinner Sharks. As we get closer to Spring-time, the Sharks show up in even greater numbers. They are a lot of fun to catch and release. One boat said they saw a GIANT Mako swim under the boat while they were Swordfishing. So it looks like the Sharks are showing up early for the Spring-time run.

Some Sailfish are still being caught while kite fishing. Most of the action has been in 130’ to 200’ of water. We have been catching a few King Mackerel and Dolphin (Mahi-mahi) while live baiting for the Sailfish.

Some Kings are being caught trolling the reefs. They are catching a few Bonito and Barracudas too.

Swordfish action offshore has still been red-hot. Quite a few boats reporting 2 to 3 bites per night. Some fish are being weighed in over 200 lbs.

Let’s go fishing! The weather has been great and the fishing is good!

Catch-em-up,

Captain Kunta
