Fort Lauderdale, FL - Offshore

Capt. David Ide

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been great, sea conditions are calm for the most part and fishing has been steadily improving. Dolphin are being found near and under the numerous weedlines and debris in the water. Catches have been made in most all depths on trolled ballyhoo, live baits or strip baits. Schoolie size dolphin are the mainstay, but a few bigger 15-25 lb. fish have been caught. Of course, the feature news has been the shark fishing. With Florida's warm water temperatures, sharks are very abundant. They are eating everything in their path including live baits out of the kite and any bait dropped to the bottom. A majority of the fish are in the 75-150 lb. range, but there are plenty of bigger ones (250-500 pounders) around. Kingfish are being caught sporadically on trolled strip baits while amberjacks are still biting well on the wrecks. A few grouper and snapper were found on the best wrecks, but none of any great size. Look for the elusive blackfin tuna schools that pass by this time of year.
