Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bonito and Kingfish action on the Ft. Lauderdale Drift boats

Well guys, its apparent. The action on the drift fishing boats has been the best bet when it comes to fishing in Ft. Lauderdale. We've been coming in with around 20-30 bonitos, 5-7 king fish, 1 tuna or other crazy pelagic fish, and a handful of snappers(mutton or yellowtail) in just about every drift fishing trip we've gone out on. Not only that, the anchor fishing for yellowtails and muttons on our night anchor trips have been getting great catches. Its been a helluva good summer for us in Lauderdale and its been the best summertime fishing out here I've seen in about 6 years.

The Sportfishing boats have been catching good catches too. A few nice blackfin tuna, a wahoo every now and again and lots of kings and bonitos. The mahi mahi are not biting that well these days and maybe its just because I haven't been out there to fish for them lately, but I haven't heard of many. The action has simply been too good to leave the reef lately. Sailfish are already showing up. I've been seeing a lot of free jumpers out there in about 150' of water and we've been catching one here and there on the drift boats. Anyway, should be a great sailfishing season for us this year and that'll be coming up soon. I can't wait for this heat to quit, its been hot. Glad our boats are air conditioned. Cya all on the water.

Swordfishing off Ft. Lauderdale

Well, the swordfishing has been awesome this month. Until the other night when they had the tournament that is. One of the mates that work for me, Mike Muldoone, went out on his private boat and won the whole kit and kaboodle. Pretty work Mike, congrats. I heard it was a gnarly night on the water that night. A couple of boats actually capsized. The coast guard caught more that night than the anglers did, 6 or 8 two-hundred pounders. You had to be brave to go out in those seas. Other than this weekend, and probably just because of the storm to the south of us, the weather has been beautiful.

Our Friday night swordfishing trip that we run every week has been pretty successful. We had a couple trips this month when we caught 2 swordfish and we also caught a 70 pound wahoo on one of the trips, unexpected but cool. September was one of our best months for swordfish last year so I think this year will probably be good too. Anyway, cya all out there.
