September Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
September 24, 2022
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, im going to get right into this weeks report, starting on the offshore side of things the mahi mahi are here and in very good numbers but they are very far offshore and I highly recommend a 8 hour trip if this is the species your looking to catch. Lots of patches of seaweed are easy to locate right now off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. The average size of the mahi right now have bee around 10lbs which are very good sized fish and perfect for the dinner table. When locating some of these large seaweed patches it is very important to have some live bait because when in a school of mahi live bait is a no brainer for the fish to eat when they are schooled up they are in hungry mode and you want to be able to take full advantage of that. Other then that on the offshore side of things thats about it a few tuna way way out there but they have been biting better inshore. So for inshore this week we will start on the bottom there has been some nice sized vermillion snappers this week structure as deep as 300 feet is a good place to look small cut baits like squid or bonito is always going to be a good option for bottom creatures. There also has been some very very large amberjack on some of the deeper shipwrecks and rock piles off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Live bait is always going to be your best option for these fish, amberjack are fair on the dinner table they do get worms in there meat so that can make it somewhat dis pleasing so we mostly practice catch and release with this species, still a great fight and some awesome memories if your lucky enough to catch one. On the troll inshore there has been some kingfish and bonito and also some larger tuna around but it all has been very early in the morning, small squid skirt lures with mylar have been the best option for the tuna and bonito and for the kingfish its hard to beat fresh bonito strips trolled just on the edge of the reef. All in all fishing right now has been very steady and lots of options of things to target, I would say mahi is the best thing to fish for right now there are plenty of fish offshore and good size ones you cut go wrong. Be sure this week to check out some of the great photos of some great catches caught during our deep sea fishing charters, and remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. I should have a good report for you guys next week as well so be on the lookout for that. More later……
