Harrison Lattimer and Todd Schad from North Carolina chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The wind was blowing 25 mph out of the east and the seas were sporty with the average wave 4 to 6 ft. high.

Heading out of the inlet, we decided to target Mahi Mahi offshore. East wind is good for Mahi fishing, as it schools up the bait and lines up the weed, pushing it closer to shore. Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. The bait selection was Ballyhoo, and we put out four surface baits and one deep plainer line. We started trolling in 300 ft. of water and headed offshore looking for weed lines, birds and schools of flying fish.

Our first bite was in 600 ft. of water and was a keeper Mahi Mahi, which ate the swimming Ballyhoo. We continued heading offshore searching for more birds and weed lines and caught another Mahi Mahi keeper in 650 ft. of water. The third bite was on the rigger Ballyhoo and was another Mahi. The fourth fish hit the deep plainer line, and a Mahi Mahi ate the white sea witch - this was in 700 ft. of water. As the angler was reeling the Mahi in, it pulled the hook.

The final catch of the day was a really nice Wahoo, which was also caught on the deeper sea witch line. The angler did a great job in reeling in the Wahoo and brought him to the side of the boat. Joe, our mate, gaffed the Wahoo and put him on ice.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
