The Davis family, Ed, Linette, Harrison and Reese, from Philadelphia chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Davis' were looking forward to getting out there and having a fun fishing trip.

We started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft of water 1.8 miles from shore. We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. We also put a dead Bonita bait 100 ft. down and another 200 ft. down on the bottom. Our target species were Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Shark and Grouper.

Shortly after setting out the kite baits, a Mahi Mahi fed and we had one on. The Mahi Mahi jumped out of the water 4 to 5 times. Harrison was the angler, and he fought this Mahi very well. He ended up catching a 12 pounder – Mark, our mate, gaffed the Mahi Mahi and put him in the fish box on ice.

We set back up and went back to fishing our spread of baits, when all of a sudden we got a huge hit. The rod bent over and drag started ripping out. Ed hopped in the fighting chair and started battling this fish. I maneuvered the boat, constantly keeping the fish behind the boat, as he would make big runs to the surface then sound. Ed angled the fish up and it turned out to be an 8 and a half foot Hammerhead Shark. We got the fish up onto the boat, removed the hooks, got a few quick photos and released the Shark to fight another day.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
