Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Kent Railsback from Colorado had time to kill waiting for his flight so he decided to charter the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. We had winds out of the east at 15 mph with seas running 3-5 ft., temperatures in the mid 80's.

After leaving the dock at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale, fifteen minutes later lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy located at Fort Lauderdale. We started out fishing with two plainers down – both with sea witches (one blue and white and the other blue and black) in front of a double hooked Mullet strip. For surface baits we went with two Bonito strips and one Ballyhoo. As we trolled the reefs ranging from 80 ft out to 160 ft., we caught one Kingfish and two Bonitos.

I could see a rip forming to the east of Fort Lauderdale that was located in 210 ft. of water. At that time I decided to do some kite fishing. We put out two kites with two Mullets on each kite. Our first fish was a Black Tip Shark. After Kent reeled in the Shark to the side of the boat, Matt, our mate, grabbed the leader for picture taking and the Shark was released. From there we reset and got attacked by a double header Mahi Mahi (Bull and Cow). Kent was busy going from one rod to the other bringing in both gaffers Mahi Mahi. We reset again and wound up catching five more Mahi Mahi's – all good sized gaffers.

Kent was the only angler on this trip, so when I inquired as to how he was feeling, he remarked that he will take a good nap on the plane back to Colorado. In the meantime, Kent retired into the a/c salon to relax on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
