Tammy and Bert Merriman from Arizona along with their son, Alex, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Tammy and Bert were in town visiting their son, Alex. After Tammy did her research in checking reviews on fishing boat charters, she chose us, the Topshotfishing team, because we have a 5-star rating and have been in the business since 1974 with three generations of fishing in Fort Lauderdale.

On the way out, we stopped to get some live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait, which we will be using for kite fishing later in the fishing charter. Fifteen minutes later we were fishing in Fort Lauderdale at the sea buoy, which is 1.8 miles from shore in 120 ft. of water We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch with a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits, we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

We trolled the reefs, ranging from 80 ft. out to 200 ft. of water south of Fort Lauderdale. The whole family took turns bringing in their catches and taking picture of all the action. The family caught five Kingfish and two Black Fin Tunas with one Barracuda. It was now time to put out the kites. We set up two kites in 180 ft. of water with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. The last couple of days we have had excellent luck in catching Sailfish, so we were hoping to repeat it again. A swing and a miss on the long-left kite as the Kingfish sky rocketed out of the water. We reset the bait and this time a nice size Mahi-Mahi attacked the bait on the right long kite. Alex was our angler, and he jumped into the fighting chair to do battle. Twelve minutes later a nice bull Mahi-Mahi was at the side of the boat, and Dave, our mate, gaffed the 14 pounder, while saying, "Welcome aboard from the Topshotfishing team".

With plenty good eating fish for the table, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock.
