Ryan, Kendall, Tony, Mini and Joel, all from New York, were down in South Florida on vacation and decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

We started out the morning catching live bait, and caught Bullet Bonitos, which were about 6" to 8" in length. Bonitos are excellent live bait, which we catch during the winter months using light-weight feather jigs. These baits hang around structures, such as sunken ship wrecks and anchored ships; this morning we went to an anchored ship and caught them around the anchor line.

After catching a dozen Bonitos, we got a wire stinger rig with 2 treble hooks and put the Bonitos right back in the water. The great thing about slow trolling these live baits is that we can cover more area.

We started fishing by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore, and worked out to 200 ft. and back into 100 ft. looking for larger prey. Our spread of baits were: one on the center rigger, one on the right and left long rigger and one down deep on the down rigger. We slowly dragged the baits from shallow to deep when, suddenly, we got two big hits, one on the rigger and one on the down line – Fish On – Hooked Up - Double Header Wahoos. Ryan and Joel were the anglers and fought the two Wahoos. After a good long fight, with the lines going in and out numerous times, the Wahoos were brought along the side of the boat. Marc, our mate, gaffed one Wahoo and then the other - the Wahoos turned out to be a couple of 50 pounders. The anglers fought an excellent battle, and their prize was two nice Wahoos for the guys to take home for a big fish cook out.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. Marc filet the fish for the anglers to take home.
