Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We are fully into our spring fishing now off Fort Lauderdale with more and more fish showing up everyday. On the reef over the past two weeks we have had lots of big kingfish. A good amount of them are in the 15-30lb range with a few up to and over 40lbs. These fish are usually around for another month before they stay to our north for the rest of the summer.
Sailfish remain active on the reef as they head north. We have been having at least 2 shots each trip over the past week and have been catching at least one per trip. This is the time of year where you could be suprised and catch 10 or more sailfish if you happen to be at the right place at the right time.
On the wreck we have been having consistent fishing for cobias. Trick to catching them is getting them in quick before the bullsharks finish them off. This is the time of year they follow the sharks and you have to be quick if you want a delicious cobia meal. The wrecks off Ft. Lauderdale in 100-250ft have been holding the fish.
Dolphin fishng off Ft. Lauderdale has been heating up well. Offshore there is no shortage of schoolies. While they taste better than the big ones nothing beats the fight and colors put off by a big one. The bigger dolphin have been scattered offshore and he best bet has been to look for frigate birds circling above them. When we have had a few days of east wind the dolphin have been showing up on the reef and can be targeted just as we have been targeting the sailfish, kingfish, tunas and more.
Blackfin tunas have been a little slow to show but scattered catches have been made mostly to the south of Fort Lauderdale, from Haulover south.
