Swordfish Wahoo Sailfish Dolphin and More

Capt. Ryan McBride
September 19, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have been consistently catching wahoos off Fort Lauderdale in the last 3 weeks. Averaging .8 wahoos per trip, we are at least getting 1 shot per trip though hooking wahoos on light tackle doesn't always result in a catch. These are great fighing fish on 20 or less lb. line and have been ranging from 27-60lbs. We have been getting them on blue runners and goggle eyes from 180-400ft. of water mostly on the slow troll.
In the same depth we are catching a few sailfish. The sailfish have been eating the goggle eyes again on the slow troll and have been a great way to pass the time between wahoo bites. They have also been a good indicator as to where all fish are feeding. We have caught a sailfish in 250ft of water and the next pass through that depth we get a wahoo. Been really helpful in finding the depth the fish are biting off Ft. Lauderdale.
Kingfish have slowed down with the last full moon last week but should pick up again this week. We were catching fish from 15-35lbs pretty consistently up untill the full moon again mostly in the 180-250ft range.
The bonitas have also been biting well off Lauderdale from 150-220ft of water to pass the time.
There have been some decent weedlines offshore and the dolphin have been in good numbers. We have been seeing dolphin from 1-12lbs. in the last week. We have caught them trolling lures and drifting with live bait and are catching a few everytime offshore. We have also caught a small wahoo off the debris as well as sailfish on the weedlines so you never know what you are going to catch offshore of Fort Lauderdale.
The Swordfishing has been phenomenal in the past 3 or so weeks. Almost every boat daytime swordfishing off Ft. Lauderdale has been catching at least one. Most of these fish have been in the 200+lb. range with numerous fish in the 400+lb range. This is a great time to try to catch one of these giant fish. Also at night we have been catching a bunch of fish. These fish again have been on the 50-100lbs range we have seen a few fish over 200lbs recently.
It is really great fishing now so give us a call to book your charter.
