A Taste Of Spring Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
February 28, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, Some great weather we have had to end the month of February in Fort Lauderdale, now hopefully onto our springtime patterns weather wise and fishing wise, this weeks report is what I like to call a mixed bag which means there is a bunch of different types of fish biting but neither species is biting better then another. So for this week we are going to start with some bottom fishing action, there has been some pretty good snapper action as of late when the current is fishable some days we have had heavy current which makes it hard to bottom fish but days when there is heavy current the pelagic fish usually bite well. But as of late the bottom fishing bite has been consistent nice sized vermillion snappers as well as mutton snappers have been biting on spots that we have been anchor fishing, Live pilchards have been the best bait to use a pilchard is one of the smaller baitfish that we use and is what I like to call bite size so when using these guys on the bottom it opens up alot of choices of different fish you can catch. There has been some very good grouper action but they are unfortunately closed until the beginning of May but they still put up a great fight and are fun to catch. While fishing on the anchor we have been fishing live baits on the bottom as well as top baits for any kind of pelagic fish like tuna, bonito, and sailfish. Moving on to trolling there hasn't been much biting on the troll lately except tuna I would say that has been the most consistent bite as of late, early morning or late afternoons have always been best but when the current has been super strong it seems that they tend to bite all day, small lures are always going to work best. There has been a few sailfish around also on the troll with seawithes and bonito strips or fishing rigged ballyhoo is enough to get there attention, but live bait is always your best bet while trying to target sailfish. One last thing that has been hot with all the current has been shark fishing, we have been catching some larger game sharks lately with all the current we have been having some bigger then 8 feet. Shark fishing is a great way to pull on something big, we are not allowed to kill any sharks that we catch but its a great way to catch maybe the biggest fish of your life. This week please be sure to check out some of the great pictures we have of some recent catches during our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale, also remember to give us a follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. With spring approaching soon I would expect to see fishing improve as they say time will tell, anyways if your coming to Fort Lauderdale and looking to go deep sea fishing look us up we would love to show you a good day on the water...more later
