Variety In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
February 8, 2022
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report we have some nice variety and I can't wait to tell you about it... This week we have had some excellent weather as well as good fishing. Starting on the offshore side of things, trolling has been somewhat still the best way to produce some quality fish, now seems like the trolling is pretty much wahoo or nothing but there has been some very nice sized mahi mahi around and some big bonito. Trolling depths from 200 feet on out to 500 feet is the most productive and fishing our normal spread of planners down deep with surface baits is a nice basic spread in order to target a wide variety of fish, One thing that has been working well if the conditions are right is anchor fishing on some of the shallower reefs in fort Lauderdale, depths from 50 to 90 feet with heavy structure has been a good way to catch a bunch of fish as well as get action. Chumming heavy on the reef is key in order to bring in lots of different fish as well as bigger predators. While being anchored if your looking for a rather large gamefish like shark its a good idea to deploy a shark bait, its getting towards are season for shark, even though shark are not able to be killed because they are protected its still a great way to pull on something larger and have a great time doing it. As of late we have been having some luck on golden tilefish which is one of my favorite fish to eat, they live very deep on the bottom as deep as 800 feet, there may not be much sport in catching them because most of the time we use electric reels to target them but they are so tasty on the dinner table it makes it worth it. Also Snowy grouper have been biting in the deep and make a great addition to the cooler with an already tasty box of tilefish. All in all this week there has been some great variety of different fish biting, definitley alot of options of things to catch here in Fort Lauderdale and it so nice to see the fishing improving day by day it should be a great spring time season. Be sure to check out some of our great pictures this week of some recent catches caught during our Sportfishing charters out of fort Lauderdale, and also remember to follow us on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook @Ybnormalsportfishng for daily fishing pictures and videos. If your coming to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up, we would be glad to put you on some fish and show you a good time as well.
