Windy Days Fishing In Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
February 11, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, some crazy weather we had this week but that doesn't mean we are not out fishing or that the fish are not biting either, so the report this week is going to start out with some bottom fishing, this week when the conditions are right as in light current and light wind there has been some quality bottom fish right here in Fort Lauderdale, there has been some nice grouper being caught on live bait but unfortunately they are out of season till the month of May so they all must be released, even though you can't keep right now groper are great fighters and will make you earn every inch. While doing some bottom fishing there still are some large trophy amberjacks that are a possibility. A few snapper around on shallower bottom fishing spots, vermillion and lane snappers have been on most spots. Always a good idea to fish small baits on the bottom for the snappers and to have 1 larger bait out for any larger fish that might be down there as well. As for trolling this week its been somewhat slow, still seems that early morning or late afternoon remains the best window to get out deep sea fishing, there has been a few wahoo around this week which is always a great sign we did manage to get a few of those too. A few blackfin tuna in the mix as well as some larger mahi mahi, February is not notorious for mahi but if you are lucky enough to catch some they are usually good size. I would say if you were fishing this week in Fort Lauderdale your best bet would be to get some live bait and either slow troll them around or break out the kites and fish that way. There has been a few quality fish being caught just about everyday and live baiting is going to be your best choice. While fishing live bait on the surface you open alot of options of species that will strike as of late kite fishing with live bait has been producing some sailfish, bigger kingfish, tunas, and some wahoo so live baiting would give you the best chance at a variety of different fish. This week be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we had caught during our deep sea fishing charters, I even got into the action myself. Also remember to give us a follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. This week we have some availability if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you and show you a great time on the water. more later...
