Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 4/3/2011

Pictured above is Lauren Lehizh with a 38 inch cobia she caught being held by her father Mitch. This fish was caught free-lining shinners in Pine Island Sound. Great Fish!

April started warmer than normal and with winds much like March. Fishing has stayed good but a couple of strong fronts stirred the bay up and made riding around difficult at times.

Sea trout fishing stayed good with nice numbers of slot fish, good higher water made redfishing on and around the oyster bars and mangrove shorelines good in the afternoons. Snook have been a bit slower than normal and there are still mackerel and ladyfish in and around the passes.

Tarpon have been showing up a little more each day and on one of the calmer days this week I saw three free jumping fish in Pine Island sound. All we need is to get rid of this wind.

There have been some sharks on the beaches but that has also been put on hold with rough and murky water.

Tarpon season will be here before you know it get your reservations now!
