Backs Bays/Nearshore Wrecks Report!

Capt. Scott Theis
March 10, 2013
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been hit or miss in Estero Bay due to the back and forth with the weather. When the water temperatures drop it's best to fish the east wall and back creeks. The water temps are a slight warmer especially in the afternoon. Look for deep pockets and deep shorlines with good overhangs. The snook bite has been good but their on the small side. Using a freelined pilchard or a split shot with a 1/0 mutu-lite hook is the best way to catch these fish. The redfish have been tough but there are some around. Be very patient and look for the deep shorelines using a 1/4oz jighead with a live shrimp will entice these fish.

If the wind stays down the nearshore wrecks off of Ft. Myers Beach are providing great action with a few different species. The sheepshead are still at the top of the list with flounder not to far behind. Also, you will come across some great rod bending action from gag grouper. All grouper must be released for another day. Shrimp and white bait pinned to the bottom is the way to go to keep tight.
