Best Bite and Conitions in Weeks

Capt. Ron Kowalyk

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Backbay: Relief at last with a few really nice days, with warm air and water temps, perked up the flats action. My crews found reds, trout, sheepies all willing chewers with plenty of fat shrimp to satisfy their taste buds, I like It ! Snook were on a chew as well so debarb your hooks for safe release. Sheepies are the big story for "ham and eggers, catches by the ton were reported at San Carlos Bay, in P.I. and Charlotte Harbor. Every dock had it veteran "Dentice" I even saw a couple of "Iwo Lima Eddies" still able to set the hook on the dockside bad boys, yummy! There are a mix of battlers around the oyster bars so tread lightly and scoot up with your pole or troller and keep a sharp eye out. We managed a few fun reds, trout and sheepies as the tides came in, very glamorous fishing just like on TV! The canals are hosting mobs of hungry sheepies, winterover, snook and lazy reds, all your need is shrimp. Pins are back on the flats so drop by Winn Dixie and stock up on cat food. There's beginning to be shoals of shiners on the flats near the passes, cat food again! Trout are easiest with shrimp tipped jigs, flies will work and smallish jerkbaits are useful when the bait moves in. I'm having too much fun and so will you after the winter "stinko" poop water drought.

See you on the water, Good, Better, Best !
