Boca Grande To Ft Myers Report

Capt. Scott Hughes
October 31, 2016
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing for snook has decent despite a very windy October. I'm still finding a few fish out near the barrier islands but the majority of the fish I've been catching have been well inland. Look for fish around creek mouth and points. I'm also catching quite a few snapper along with the snook. Redfishing has been very tough for me. I'm catching a redfish every once in a while but Its been very slow in the areas that I've been fishing. Speckled trout fishing is fair. I really haven't been targeting them much but I have been catching some nice keepers when fishing open flats. Tarpon season is over for me this season. I was still catching them up until hurricane Mathew passed by us. Since then, the wind has been howling and I've not been able to relocate them. Most likely, they are well south of us by now anyway.

Fort Myers Fishing Forecast:

As we get closer to winter, the snook fishing will slow and the trout fishing will get better. Winter is usually pretty good for small to medium sized redfish. Hopefully the redfishing will get better.

Target Species:

snook, snapper, redfish, speckled trout

More Fishing Reports:

I specialize in light tackle saltwater, and fly fishing from the backcountry of the 10,000 Islands to flats of Pine Island Sound and the bay system of Charlotte Harbor. I have pick-up locations out of Ft Myers, Marco Island, Pine Island, Punta Gorda and Boca Grande. I like to target big fish. During warm months, tarpon, sharks, snook, redfish, cobia, king mackerel and big jacks are the main species sought after. Most of the winter months are devoted to redfish, trout, snook and grouper.
