Clearer Water Stable Weather Fires Up Ft Myers Spring Fishing

Capt. Eric Anderson
March 30, 2014
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Now that we are finally done with this procession of cold fronts and the strong winds that come with them the fishing this coming week in Fort Myers and Ft Myers Beach (March 31st – April 6th) will be outstanding. The Gulf has finally quieted down and the water is starting to clear which is great news. Everyone had a tough couple of weeks with a combination of dirty water and rapidly changing surface water temperatures. When you combine all these conditions, you had to slow way down to catch fish.

I spent last week fishing down in the Marco Island area rather than battle the dirty water in my normal guiding area of Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, and Estero Bay. The trout fishing in the back country creeks was outstanding and everyone caught some nice redfish. One of my primary objectives was to check on the migrating Tarpon, and the good news is that I found them in the passes and on every beach I checked.

If you are interested in catching a Tarpon on light tackle or a fly Rod this week could be the start of our fantastic spring, summer, and fall Tarpon fishing if the weather cooperates. As a bonus the warmer than usual water temperatures have a lot of really nice Snook distributed all across the area, giving you a decent shot at big Snook any time you're out fishing.

I realize that there are about three weeks of spring breakers that are looking forward to their vacation in Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach. With fishing conditions improving rapidly and the long-range weather forecast calling for more normal weather please don't wait until the last minute to book your fishing charter. There are many qualified guides that post here so please take the time to book one of us so that you don't end up hearing sorry from everyone you call. Our job is to get you out on the water fishing, so get busy and get on that phone

Fort Myers Fishing Forecast:

If the weather forecast holds true for the week ending April 6th the spring Tarpon fishing in the Ft Myers bays and off the Fort Myers Beaches will be in full swing so get ready!

Target Species:

Tarpon Snook Redfish

We specialize in offering light tackle and fly fishing charters on the flats and in the back bays of Ft Myers and Fort Myers Beach. Just south of Fort Myers is Estero Bay which has an extensive network of lagoons, mangrove islands, tidal creeks and rivers. Fish with one of the Fort Myers Areas most experienced light tackle and fly fishing guides for Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout and more. Be sure to ask us about night fishing, it is great for big Snook.
