Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

This time of the year provides some of the best fishing off of Ft. Myers Beach. We have cobia migrating north and stopping to feed on the wrecks. The almighty tarpon podding up on their way to Boca Grande and snook making their way out to the wrecks to fatten up for their spawn and don't forget to look at the traps for tripletail. The wrecks are holding plenty of thread herring and this means all sorts of species are in a feeding frenzy. Cobia seems to be first choice with snook, trout, grouper and big spanish mackeral not far behind. Make sure to work the water column from top to bottom. Thread herring is the choice of bait. A cast net or sabiki rigs around bridges and markers will fill your livewell. Tarpon are showing up in numbers so make sure you have a full livewell of threadies.

The inshore fishing has picked up due to the warmer water temperatures and plenty of bait on the grass flats. The higher stages of the tide fish the bushes with live pilchards or pinfish and this is where you'll find the snook, reds and jacks. On the lower stages of the tide work the edges of grass flats for trout and reds.
