Cold Weather Hot Fishing

Capt. Rick Featherstone
January 10, 2010
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wow for sure its cold! Where the good news in that as far as fishing is is concerned. The story of my week was lots of big Jacks! Snapper, sheepshead, trout were around but being a screaming drag freak I just focused on the jack action. Jigs with rubber tails, shrimp both worked well. My favorite is getting them to eat top water lures. The skitterwalk by Rapala is pretty easy to walk the dog with and will cast a mile. If you are into tailing redfish, NOW is your time. Extreme low winter tides, clear water, it just does not get better than right now.

Before this cold front there was excellent action on snapper. Bull redfish and Bull sharks were abundant as well. The snapper favored hand puck shrimp on knocker rigs while the sharks preferred the SNAPPER! Yes they were so aggressive they were taking a few from our hooks.

Sincerely,
Capt. Rick Featherstone
