The Dog Days Of Summer

Capt. Gary Clark
July 26, 2011
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 7/25/2011

We are nearing the end of July and its hot and sticky out, water temps are nearing 90. They are finally releasing water from the Caloosahatchee being one of the latest in the year that I can remember.
Lake O is still low and it usually takes something of the nature of a tropical event to make up these kind of numbers. Fishing in the river still remains good with snook, jacks and mangrove snapper enjoying the cooler rain water being released.

Pictured above is Chris Zebranski with a 26 inch 5lb. sea trout he caught while floating a live shinner under a popping cork near Ft. Myers beach, Chris also caught a 24 in trout comming in at 4lbs. which is great for this time of year.

Spanish mackerel and schooling size trout have been near the beaches and passes, free linned shinners and heavy chumming are your best bets. When ever possible I have been finding the schools of bait and fishing the edges.

Sharks are still a summer favorite with smaller ones showing up while we are trout fishing and the big boys near the passes and shallow channels.
