Estero Bay Warm Up Means Redfish and Big Trout

Capt. Rob Modys
March 24, 2010
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The bite is on in the back country of Estero Bay. The water temperatures have steadily risen over the past week and that has really shifted the fishing into high gear. Redfish are starting to make a nice showing on the high tides near mangrove edges and around oyster bars. The sea trout just keep getting bigger and bigger. The last couple of trips produced several over 20 inches. Whitebait is finally being caught on the beaches and near the passes and that sure makes catching snook a lot easier. The resent cold was a worry but it seems the snook in our area are doing OK and they are hungry! The nearshore bite is improving as the Gulf temperatures rise. Spanish mackerel and bonita (little tuny) are running in small schools. Look for the birds and you'll find the fish.

Fort Myers Fishing Forecast:

Looking for improved nearshore fishing and grouper season opens back up on April 1st. Also... more bait on the beaches means more fish on the line and that should be the case with improving water temperatures.
