Estero River fishing pays off after rains

Fishing with Carl and Cindy Werner from Garfield Heights, Ohio this past week yielded some really nice fish and photos. It's nice when the two come together!

The day started with cast netting live pilchards along the beach. Once we had a nice haul of bait of various sizes it was time to do some catching. If you're looking for bigger baits try your best to throw on the outside edges of the pods. Seems the larger pilchards hang out there and the larger baits are well worth the more precise throw.

Carl and Cindy were successful working the free-lined baits on circle hooks with a heavier than usual leader along the edges of the banks of the Estero River. Early day and just after a heavy rain combined to create fast action with a final count of a dozen snook including a slot keeper, 4 jacks, 3 mangrove snapper and 1 slot redfish. Best tip I can give you is don't be afraid to keep moving if you don't get a bite within 5 to 10 minutes. Being in the right place at the right time is key.
