Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Perfect weather Monday with light winds and a slight overcast set the stage for some awesome fishing at night in Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach area. The key was the tide switching to incoming just when it got good and dark.(8:30pm) The snook were in nearly every place we fished.
If you decide to go fishing at night remember that the fish are really active so you don't need to use live bait. We had good action on a variety of crankbaits and swimbaits. The key is to try both noisy and quiet baits. Some fish will slam a noisy crankbait, while others will only hit non-rattle baits or swimbaits. A plastic shrimp tail on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait is a good compromise bait that you can work deep and shallow.
If you want to go night fishing on your own try fishing the passes where there is deep water close to a shallow sandy flat. The bigger fish were holding near the bottom last night and the smaller fish were close to the surface. Don't be afraid to try a top water bait, you just might get a big tarpon in the process. Look for more night fishing how-to tips coming soon. In the meantime get out there and take advantage of the dark moon period. If you go - Good Luck!
