Don't Fear The Wind

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The wind always presents a challenge to fishing but don't let it deter you from fishing all together. There are a few simple tactics to fishing in the wind that will almost guarantee success.
First is pretty obvious: find a leeward side of an island that's fishable. This doesn't always work but when it does it produces.
Second: Fishing wind blown banks. Wind blown banks tend to congregate bait in one area and make it easier for predators to prey on them.
Third: Get out early. Getting out early helps because the wind usually isn't blowing really hard early in the am. It make it easier to find bait which is a lot of times the real key to success and will give you a jump start on your competition that wants to fish the same areas as you :).
Despite windy conditions fishing remains good, there has been 30mph gusts and 15-20mph constant winds for the past three days in estero bay but the fishing is still good. My clients have been catching a lot of undersized snook, jacks, mackerel, trout, and redfish. 2/0 owner hooks with 30lb fluorocarbon leader is the set up.
