Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report
My last fishing report was one on the more encouraging of 2008. In comes a fhuge (new word) cold front and water temps go from 80 to 63. Another weak front came through this AM. Bait was a bitch to find today and I didn't see a TARPON all day. By the way, TV and Newspapers were reporting 75 degree water temps 3-4 days ago. Today I personally never saw 75. We are upwards but 73 was the tops today.
Tarpon: They were here in massive numbers but the chilly water ran them out.
Trout: Never have I seen bigger trout be taken by many anglers. Makes sense. The cold water doesn't bother them.
Flounder: GUFC have been doing very well with flat fish. Deeper cuts are holding some nice table size treats.
Snook. We have had an excellent snook season thus far. Most of the fish remain in residential canals but the big push for the beach will begin soon.
This is Tarpon Season. I have Tarpon Charters on the books. It's tough after such a radical water temp change. 3 of my favorite customers have me booked for tomorrow (4/22/2008) I suggested they go play golf and check back with me next week.
