Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing from Estero Bay south is going strong for just about everything. The redfish are schooling up on the flats and are mixed in with schools of mullet. Even if you don't see them, keep trying and you will catch them on a variety of lures. We had good luck Saturday on topwater until about 10am and caught some nice bonus trout. All of the passes seem to have a good supply of Pompano, look for them skipping like stones then start fishing. Shrimp on a jighead worked well for the Pompano and bonus flounder.
The night fishing for Tarpon continues to be very good for the back country fish. Clients on Friday had lots of strikes and jumped fish on topwater but we couldn't get a single fish to stay on. That's Tarpon fishing some days, but the Snook made up for it with excellent fishing on the lights for several hours.
Take the time to enjoy watchable wildlife when you get the opportunity. While moving to a new spot on Saturday we came across this Bald Eagle perched on a channel marker. This bird was very calm and allowed us to take some great photos. Imagine my surprise when looking at the photo on my PC I saw a SECOND eagle flying in the background. This is one of those lucky photos that you always remember. It's definitely a nice change from the same old fish pictures we see every day!

Fort Myers Fishing Forecast:

Look for the Redfish bite to get better as we get closer to October. Meanwhile the big Snook are moving from the beaches to the flats and Mangroves.
