Fort Myers Fishing Report - Jacks Or Better

Capt. Eric Anderson
January 30, 2015
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hopefully the last of the cold morning temps will be behind us by Saturday(1-31)morning. Yesterday the temps warmed up and the wind finally died down a bit. You will find some of the warmest water and also clearer water in most residential canals and small back-country lagoons that don't have a big tidal exchange.

You never know what you'll find in the canals and yesterday it was Jacks and more Jacks. They are one of my favorite fish because they really pull! Even the small ones are sporty on light tackle. Just a great game fish.

We caught them using an 1/8oz jig with a Savage Gear 3D Shrimp in the 2 1/2" size tipped with a tiny piece of shrimp. If you haven't checked out these baits they deserve a look. They are super realistic, the small legs on the bait have an awesome swimming motion, they look alive in the water. The daytime temps were really nice and with the cover provided from the homes in the canals it was actually very warm pleasant day.

Don't forget that this weekend is the Florida Sportsman Expo at the Lee County Civic Center. Its Saturday 1-31 and Sunday 2-1 10am to 4pm. If you go to the Florida Sportsman site or the civic center site you can print out a coupon for one dollar off admission. Lots of good info and they even incorporated a gun show into the expo this year!
