Fort Myers Fishing Report Trout Bite Improving

Capt. Eric Anderson
January 19, 2015
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing is getting better as the fish have adapted to the dirty water conditions caused by the negative tides as I mentioned in my last report. The key to is to slow your retrieve way down so the fish have a chance to see it. Had some clients from Ft Lauderdale yesterday and they had a great time catching lots of trout and a few ladyfish. The trout were mostly 13" to 14 3/4" inches. Anyone with experience in slot managed fisheries knows that they don't work. When someone catches a trout that measures 15" they keep it because they can, even though they may want to release it. A lower minimum and a reduced bag limit would benefit our trout fishery immensely as it has in other areas.

Everything yesterday came on an 1/8oz jig with a 3" gulp shrimp just hopped along the bottom on the flats. Get our and enjoy this weather while you can, its hard to beat a nice breeze and mid 70's.

We specialize in offering light tackle and fly fishing charters on the flats and in the back bays of Ft Myers and Fort Myers Beach. Just south of Fort Myers is Estero Bay which has an extensive network of lagoons, mangrove islands, tidal creeks and rivers. Fish with one of the Fort Myers Areas most experienced light tackle and fly fishing guides for Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout and more. Be sure to ask us about night fishing, it is great for big Snook.
