The pompano action was at the top of the list this past week near the passes of Estero Bay. Incoming tide was best. Just drop a small jig with a piece of shrimp to the bottom on a drift and you should hook up. There were also quite a few nice mangrove snapper in the same area. Just outside the pass you'll find plenty of action with ladyfish, jacks and small sharks. The object was to keep the rods bent and we were successful at that.

There is still plenty of white bait to be had around the passes, and along the beaches. Keep an eye out around the bait. There are some big jacks hanging out in the mix. Early morning and late evening are your best chances for spotting these. Look for quiet spots away from other boats as jacks tend to be wary of movement and noise.

If you like fishing in the dark or if you've never tried it, you should. The snook and tarpon action has been lively after the sun goes down. It's a nice, cool time to be out on the water, especially with the meteor showers that were happening this past week.
