Redfish Bite Better Then Ever In Estero Bay

The great fishing continues while southwest Florida enjoys some of the nicest weather of the year. Cool mornings and warm days mixed with good tides makes finding and catching fish easy and the forecast for the upcoming week is more of the same!

The redfish bite was the big feature of the past week. On two different outings my anglers caught 18 and 31 reds in a couple of hours using live shrimp on jigs. Most were undersized but a few were quality slot fish. They also caught snook, flounder and sheepshead in the same area. Live bait has returned to the beaches and it doesn't hurt to mix that with some live shrimp for your fishing day. You never know what might work best. The spanish mackerel are still thick in the nearshore waters of the Gulf along with bonita and a lot of big ladyfish. Be sure to keep your eyes open for large schools of huge black drums. One of my anglers landed a 45 pounder a few days ago. The grouper are starting to make their nearshore migratory move but they haven't come in in big numbers yet. Pompano are showing in the passes and are running 2 to 3 pounds with few in the 4 pound range. This weeks weather forecast calls for clear skies and warm temperatures so get out there and wet a line!
