Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

A combination of great tides and weather made for great fishing over the past week. The tides will slow a bit this weekend, but the continued good weather and moderate breezes will keep the bite going and also allow greater access to the nearshore and offshore waters.

The redfish bite was the best it's been in Estero Bay. Using live shrimp on jigs and under corks, we scored on multiple reds on each day with the best day being 26 of them in one afternoon to 29 inches. We also found multiple schools working the flats.
The trout were also hitting well and have started to move out of the ditches and up onto the shallow water flats. Shrimp under popping corks was the ticket along with a mix of artificial lures and flies. There was also a good mix of jacks, ladyfish and pompano in the same areas.
The reefs held a number of hungry species with spanish mackerel at the top of the list. Just about anything shiny thrown in the water got their attention along with white bait and live shrimp. If we could get through the macs, we'd find sheepshead, trout, snapper, grouper, flounder and pompano near the bottom. Live shrimp on jigs worked best along with cut bait on circle hooks.
