Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
March 27, 2004
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Windy, Blown Out, and it stinks for everyone (Except of course for the guys who report great fishing in Hurricanes)

It was very disappointing to cancel three (3) trips this week because of the freaking wind. White caps in Estero Bay and white caps in my canal! My Dad always had two words to say about March. "March winds." He very wise man he was. Capt. GiddyUp had one trip this week. Mike and Helen Thompson could have cared less if the wind were blowing 35MPH so we fished on Thursday.

Trout: We caught a few trout in front of the Toll Plaza off Sanibel. The Thompson's ended up keeping 2 fish for their smoker. One trout was 22" and the other was 17". They caught several other trout in the trousser size range. In other words, jokes and comparisons were flying.

Redfish: We sought shelter from the 3FT San Carlos Bay white caps and located ourselves behing the Sanibel Harbor Resort. I brought my Chum Churn and 7 Ladyfish.

5 Ladies went into the Churn and we fished the other 2 as cut bait on the bottom. Carolina Rig Style. They caught 4 Rat Reds, 7 jacks, 2 more trout, and 5 puffer fish.

I'm embarassed to say this was the extent of my week. Great sunshine and low humidity ruined by freakin' gale force winds. Seldom do I publish a Fishin' Report that sucks but I ain't gonna lie to ya. IT BLOWS!!!!

Tarpon: Opps, but my favorites have arrived. I have 5 open dates in April left for Tarpon Fishing. I'm already booked for 12 trips in May. Better hurryup and call me. 239-822-8888
