Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report
From the best spring Tarpon season in years to a summer filled with early hurricanes, record rainfall, and the Big "O" releasing dark and nasty water. Our grasses are being destroyed, the Tarpon have pulled a Hank Snow, and I don't know jackcrap about freshwater fishing. Roland, where the hell are ya when I need ya????
Pine Island Sound is as dark as Expresso Coffee. I'm not bitching here, just giving you the 411. There are a few willing Trout knocking the bait off of Topwater Lures fished very early.
Big Jacks are roaming around as well. If you see a major disturbance and wanna have some fun, remove all the hooks from your Topwater Lure. It is a blast to tease them.
A few Tarpon remain off the beaches north of Redfish Pass. All of these Tarpon have PHD's in how to avoid getting hooked. Seldom will they pass up a small and well presented pass crab. Fly fisherman have the best chance of scoring these fish in my opinion. Most of the fly-guys I've met are rich as hell and pretty smart. Smart tarpon and Fly Fisherman. The perfect marriage.
Permit were knocked DOA Terrorize (rootbeer) before they pulled a Hank Snow.
I'm sorry my fishing report sucks. It's not my fault. Blame it on the rain. "GiddyUp"
