Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
January 1, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

2006! 05' was here an outtahere. The Red Tide from Aug/Sept has caused more damage than I ever expected. Grouper Trolling has produced NADA for everyone. Where I scored limits last year has not even produced a "short" this year. So, let's take a look at Inshore prospects for Jan/06.

Happy New Year and a safe year to all. GiddyUp!

Redfish: Pine Island Sound has been producing decent Redfish action on incoming tides. Oysters Bars and patience are your keys to success. In my opinion, success depends on putting some chum out for these snarfers of the flats. Another must is MOVING WATER.

If it ain't movin', go find someplace else to fish.

Try the last 2 hours of the Ebb and first 2 hours of the flood.

Trout: Trout Season opens today and I'm out of town. When I return, I plan to troll for Trout and mark my strikes with a small floating buoy. Big Trout have been roaming all around Demere Key. Chances are very good to excellent "GiddyUp" will be roaming around there as well.

Docks for a Mixed Bag:

Flounder/Grouper/Reds/Snook/and Trout can all be found around docks with natural grass beds growing below. Watch TV Listing for my appearance on Light Tackle Angler in 2006!
