Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
November 13, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Successful Fishing Guides share one common bond. They keep a Log. Some write down everything. The really smart guides depend on their instincts. Most of the really smart guides are no longer in business. Onward!

Exactly 2 years ago, you could not drag a Stretch 25 or 30 without scoring a Gag Grouper or a King Mack. In 2005, in and around November 10th (the Birthdate of the US Marines) nothing hit. Not even a Freakin' Cuda. On November 10th, 2006, NOTHING. Two years ago things were on fire. Last year/this year is simply ICE COLD for pulling Big Lip lures for Grouper. Let's go to the Inshore Report/

Redfish: On a recent charter, I had two ladies who were married to each other. Just married. Anyway, my request was simple. When I start cutting Ladyfish for bait be sure and WATCH MY RODS. Back to the cutting board I go and the sound of a rod leaving the boat is unmistakeable. Good-bye Catalyst 20 and St Croix 6-6 rod. I simple stopped cutting bait and started watching their affections towards one another. It was kinda cool actually. Anyway, the Redfish are biting on the Incoming Tide. The last of the Incoming

Snook: These fish are under a hell of a lot of pressure. Everybody wants their flesh. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You must romance Snook at night. If you insist on day fishing, it requires a heavy Outgoing Tide. The docks at the entrance to Tarpon Bay are holding some serious snook. Disable a pinfish and chunk him up there. No drag. Walk him back to the back of the boat. There are some huge snook at the first 3 docks.

Kings Macks are rumored to be off the Edison Reef. I'll find out tomorrow. GiddyUp!
