Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in SW FL is "On Fire!" Nature has way of protecting her innocent. Wind. How windy has it been? How about these numbers. From March 1, 2007 to April 30th there have been 9 fishing days with wind LESS THAN 15MPH. 9 "freakin" days in 2 months. In my opinion, this dynamic confuses the fish. (Imagine life inside of a washing machine) But know gill lovers, all species are on the prowl. Rods are bending and anglers are yelling. All except Tripletail. Where all the Tail is has perplexed me since 9 years old.
Tarpon: All right, sing along with me. "The boys are back in town, the boys are back in town." And the Pro Guides are singing "We'll be takin' care of business."
One thing is for sure. Tarpon mating has yet to commence. Think about this. We ran out of Threadfin Herring and used KFC Drumsticks!HA!!! Just kiddin' but the bite is serious. All Inshore. Pine Island Sound is loaded with Poons'
The Snook bite this year was the best in many years. Most successes on GiddyUp Charters came on cut Ladyfish. Find an Oyster Bar or Mangrove Island and throw out a chunk. OWNER Mutu Circle Hook, # 2 (Mayday) and then light a cigar or crack a cold one.
When the rod goes off, simply start reelin'
Flounder. Flounder? Who cares about a flattie. I does!
Stuffed with crabmeat, are you kiddin' me man? If you wish to find out if you can fish, go target Flounder and Pompano and get back to me.
Trout: GiddyUp Fishing Charters are scoring some BIG MAMAS. 4-6LBS. These girls fight for their lives. You catch em', kiss em', and release them. Why would anyone wish to eat the flesh of a fish ready to release 1,000's of trout for the taste of one. Catch 4 fish of 15" and feel good about yourself. People who eat grits understand the concept of sliced tomatoes, grits, and small trout. PLEASE leave the Big Mamas alone to do their thing. Shouldn't you do something for Big Mama?
Go enjoy yourself! GiddyUp!
