Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
June 19, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The big news here in SW FL is the heat. High morning temps may be responsible for all the LOVE GOING ON IN AND AROUND DA BEACH. Tarpon are seemingly everywhere but in a circle so they swim. And you know what that means boys and girls! Daisy Chaining is an amazing thing to see. The big question still remains. How do you get the "Poons" to bite when they are thinking about a little poon-tang? Small crabs? Tarpon don't want crabs either. Small live shrimp? Do you want shrimp when you are thinking about doing the Horizontal Mumbo? At time I simply look at my hands in complete bewilderment and proclaim "Beats Me!" GiddyUp!

Most of the Tarpon remain small in and around the beaches. The "Tipples" size hogs are all in B-Grande-Pass. I fish the Pass as well as anyone but to get me involved in that madness will cost you $1,000.00

I know what you're sayin'. "Screw him, does he think I'm crazy to pay him that much?" Yes I do but that's my price. It's crazy up there but fish are flying in the air like giant horse flies. Everybody is hooked up. Crazy and stressful fishing.

Trout: Huge trout are being caught on the beach. What beach? Sanibel. It is on fire. My charters are scoring 4-5LB trout on a regular basis. It will not last much longer. Too bad Trout taste so inferior to so many SW FL fish like TRIPLETAIL.

3 Tails are back. These dumb and dumber misplaced idiots will do anything when a nice live bait is thrown at them. But once again, who can afford to go run for Tripletail. I sure can't. Those days are forever over even though my new 2007 Honda 225BF is averaging 3.8 miles per gallon. This is HUGE as it use to be 2.3

Redfish are on one day and off the next. For the 700th time, cut ladyfish is the ticket to a big red.

Snook: As soon as my low tech brain comprehends sending pictures, I'll forward along a 29.75 snook we dredged up on a big lip lure. Belton Johnson Reef. I thought we had hooked a crab trap!
